In June of 2025 I turned 70 – But I wasn’t ready. Despite 30 years sobriety and three “life-changing” Christian retreats I was trying to “do life” while living with the Spirit of Fear. In fact I wasn’t living – I was surviving. Running my own business and engaging in solid friendships – to the outside world I was ok. But I knew I wasn’t. I always felt wounded & hobbled. As a believer I was impoverished & malnourished.

A month before my birthday – while talking with René on the phone I shared my feelings. Immediately I sensed “He got it”. The validation let a little bit of light to my weariness.

In the next few minutes René shared about his life coaching work. When I asked if he had space for me I immediately “signed up.”

Over the next 2 months we met for 6, 1.5 hr sessions. He allowed me to “see for myself” what was wrong – or could be wrong with my thinking. Even when we disagreed he was always pleased with my progress.

Admittedly I did most of the endless talking. But because I trusted René’s process it allowed me to vomit up my past without condemnation, recrimination, or judgment. As ugly, hard truths surfaced about me (or others) René provided the course correction with scripture and well-reasoned questions.

As our coaching sessions neared the end I was delivered from the devastating spirit of fear – 3 lies about myself. Specifically:

1. God does not love me. (Because of the lies I believed)

2. I would always need to be punished.

3. I would never be good enough for my family.

With God and with René’s prayerful guidance, razor-sharp insight, and his own life experience, we changed. I was ready to change. I was hungry for and now I look forward to the plans God has for my life. Knowing I am truly loved by God changed everything.
