Letting Go…
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)
Putting your trust in something or someone else is not an easy thing, let alone trusting in a God you cannot see. Fully letting go as these verses suggest is a scary exercise but if done can also be some of the most exhilarating experiences in your life. In the last few years I found myself on the wrong side of health issues. When doctors didn’t have the answers I wanted to hear I found myself left with two options. One, to be consumed with despair and to essentially give up. The second, a much better option in my opinion and that was to leave my circumstances in God’s hands.
Like I had already mentioned this can quite possibly be the hardest thing you will ever do in your life. As humans we like to be in control and I am certainly no exception to this but I can attest that since I put my trust in God in these dire situations He did in fact direct my paths. It wasn’t easy and still isn’t but the direction I have received is not something I could have supplied on my own. I have many powerful examples in my life from something as scary as recovering from a stroke or to a more everyday type of issue as to how I will be able to pay the next months bills to show me what God can do in my life when I choose to let go. I wish I could say it is now super easy for me to let go of my desire to want to control things but that would be a lie.
These verses are something we have to choose to live out on a daily basis but when we truly let go we are definitely in for some pleasant surprises.
