“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)
Putting your trust in something or someone else is not an easy thing, let alone trusting in a God you cannot see. Fully letting go as these verses suggest is a scary exercise but if done can also be some of the most exhilarating experiences in your life. In the last few years I found myself on the wrong side of health issues. When doctors did’t have the answers I wanted to hear I found myself left with two options. One, to be consumed with despair and to essentially give up. The second, a much better option in my opinion and that was to leave my circumstances in God’s hands.
Like I had already mentioned this can quite possibly be the hardest thing you will ever do in your life. As humans we like to be in control and I am certainly no exception to this but I can attest that since I put my trust in God in these dire situations He did in fact direct my paths. It wasn’t easy and still isn’t but the direction I have received is not something I could have supplied on my own. I have many powerful examples in my life from something as scary as recovering from a stroke or to a more everyday type of issue as to how I will be able to pay the next months bills to show me what God can do in my life when I choose to let go. I wish I could say it is now super easy for me to let go of my desire to want to control things but that would be a lie.
These verses are something we have to choose to live out on a daily basis but when we truly let go we are definitely in for some pleasant surprises.
