What has you unsettled?

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. – Isaiah 26:3 ESV

Perfect peace, isn’t that a longing of each of our hearts? This verse promises so much and seems so simple. So why do we all seem to struggle so hard to reach a place of peace?

Day by day we’re bombarded with things that seem to demand our attention, whether it’s work, our families, our friends or the ever present media around us. We give our attention to everything except for the thing we long for.

It’s so interesting that the promise of perfect peace hinges on where we direct our thoughts. We have the answer in the palm of our hands yet our default is to ignore it. I know this feeling because my mind seems to go in a hundred directions all the time.

What a relief to know this state of distress can change if we choose to do one simple thing, focus on God. I know I felt a real sigh of relief as I shifted my attention towards God while writing this.

There’s another part to this verse and it states, “because he trusts in you”. Isn’t that the real origin of our muddled state? It goes back to our trust. If we truly trusted we would already be in a state of peace. I often wonder why I find it so hard to trust the person who created everything and has given me so much.

I’m definitely going to revisit what’s holding back my trust and put my focus back onto God. Maybe you’re feeling that same tension, wondering what’s been holding your own trust back. Let us sit in quiet anticipation as we receive the perfect peace of God.
