Are You Ready?
I was recently thinking about the expression, “you’ll never feel ready because ready isn’t a feeling, it’s a decision”. It made me ask myself, “what am I waiting to be ready for?”. Maybe you’ve had a similar dialogue with yourself?
Strangely enough this got me thinking about nature. Trees to be specific. Each year trees go through the different seasons and adjust accordingly. In spring the blossoms come out before the leaves come and grow moving towards summer. In autumn the leaves change colour and eventually fall before winter. At no time is the tree given any warning that the temperature is changing. When it gets warm in spring it’s time to blossom and alternately when the weather shifts and gets cold it’s time to release its leaves. The decision to adjust to the seasons is built into the tree. It doesn’t argue with the weather and say I just need to wait another week before I adjust.
All our decisions aren’t built into our being like trees. But we can learn from nature. If we want to be prepared we can’t run our lives on feelings. We too need to decide as best we can as to how we will react in situations. We also can learn how to release from trees. I think we have a tendency to hang on to things. If the tree doesn’t release its leaves it can’t be ready for the next season. We too will never be ready for the next season of our life if we do not release the past.
I too have fallen into the habit of allowing my feelings to take me to a place of endless circling. Whose permission are you waiting for? Somewhere along the way you started believing someone else’s story about yourself, one that convinces you that you need their approval before you can move. It’s also in your nature to move forward. Your God-given nature has been put in place so that you don’t need to ask for permission. But rather you were designed to decide, release and move forward.
To be honest I don’t know how ready I am for most of the decisions I make on a daily basis. Understanding the nature of how the process works helps. I find solace in looking to the One who created me knowing He not only designed the process but can also guide me through the steps.
Readiness was never meant to be a feeling that magically arrives. Let’s decide to not only move forward but also to release what’s holding us back. Then, like the trees we can live as who we were created to be.
So instead of asking are you ready I will instead ask, “what do you need to decide to release?”
