Destination or Journey?
There’s a walk in the woods I frequently do near my home. The “destination” at the end of the trail is a bridge with a creek running underneath it. When I reached my “destination” I thought about the the expression, “it’s all about the journey and not the destination.” On further contemplation I realized the destination has little meaning as the journey doesn’t stop at this point. For my walk all it represented was a half way point as I still needed to return home, so in reality it was part of the journey.
Something in my mind shifted that day, everything we do in life is part of the journey so rather than focusing on destinations that we hope will change our lives, it’s better to focus on every aspect of the journey because that is truly what impacts our lives. I’m not saying goals aren’t important, they are very important to help us achieve in life but if all we do is think of what we hope to achieve in our life, it will pass by and we will live a miserable existence. So let’s set goals for destinations but fully remembering that all of it is part of the journey and relish every moment.
