How do we control our state of mind?
The idea that we can control our state of mind has always intrigued me. We’ve been led to believe our circumstances control our state of mind and that our feelings or attitude are merely a reaction to our environment. But what if we could flip this preconception on its head? What if our circumstances are controlled by our state of mind and that we control our feelings and attitude?
The energy we put into an activity is the energy we get out of it. We’re always looking for inspiration but we can influence the inspiration we receive. If we approach an activity with joy, peace, love, and patience, we’re more likely to come away with those same qualities. So if we enter an experience carrying fear, stress, or unrealistic expectations, it’s no wonder we walk away feeling disappointed. What we bring in shapes what we take out. What we’re looking for can mysteriously be controlled by the attitude we have when we enter a situation.
Sowing and reaping applies to all areas of life, yet for some reason, it feels like a stretch to believe we can sow a mindset or an attitude. I’ve been pleasantly surprised so many times when I’ve put this to the test. I’ve walked into two nearly identical situations and the only difference was my mindset. The amazing thing is that not only did I get better results but the people around me also responded differently. It’s like having a superpower.
So my question is where in our lives can we change the energy we are putting in? Instead of focusing all our energy on external circumstances and the people around us, we have the opportunity to turn our energy towards ourselves. I believe when we focus on the right things, we can change the world. Change truly starts with us.
